Springhill Dads V
Securicor
by Freddie Ferret
This time, Mal has disappeared to check up on his daughter who's working as a holiday rep in Malta (so that's where all the Dads money goes) and it was left to Rob Thorpe to get a team together and the pressure was on!
It seemed like a team of midfielders turned up and Jim organized the formation with 3 at the back and himself playing a forward sweeper role, it was certainly an exciting line up.
SPRINGHILL DADS
Rob Thorpe
Brian Medway - Tony Pascoe - John Willis
Jim Allen
Jason Furness - Martin Kingsbury - Dave Hedges - Andy Simpson
Rob Frisby - Dave Smith
The game kicked off and it looked like men against boys (that should be old gits against boys). Do Securicor fix cars? Cos it looks like they had a few ringers in their team! The Dads formation was interesting to say the least, once the game was underway Tony Pascoe moved from defence to midfield leaving two at the back.
It was inevitable that Securicor were able to attack when any Dads moves broke down. A couple of times they broke with a ball over the top, Rob T was playing sweeper any luckily the Securicor forward pulled out of every tackle. It was only a matter of time before the deadlock was broken. The Dads had a promising attack when Dave H lost the ball and with the whole Dads team up field the ball was played through the middle and the Securicor forward struck the ball home. Rob got his fingers to it but was unable to stop the ball hitting the net.
The Dads showed resolve and stuck to their total football routine. Andy was bright down the left and was linking well with John. Martin was doing a great job of stifling out Securicor's midfield wizard, Zenadine Fatman. Tony picked up the ball from inside his own half and went on a run, a perfectly placed ball through to Rob Frisby and the ball was in - great goal.
The game was now going the Dad's way and the pressure was telling. Brian was bringing the ball out of defence to deliver the ball up to Jason no knees in midfield. Jason played a great one two with Dave S and crossed the ball into the box. Andy Simpson saw the potential and ran like the wind to beat the defender and score. The Dad's were going for it now.
Securicor pushed once again and Zenadine beat 3 Dads and shot but Rob was equal to it and pushed the ball round the post. The next Securicor move sent a player free, he shaped to place the ball into the top corner but Rob was full stretch and got a hand to the ball, unfortunately the ball dropped to another Securicor player and with an open goal he hit the post. Where were the Dad's defence because the ball fell to another Securicor player who calmly placed the ball home from five yards with Jim throwing himself across the goal to try and stop the ball.
In the dying minutes of the half Martin and Dave S combined to swing in a cross which saw Rob F hit the bar with a great header but the ball rebounded to safety.
Half time
Dad's 2 - 2 Securicor
At the half time team talk it was decided to stop with the Dutch method and at least leave one player in defence. Martin swapped with John Frisby and we kicked off.
After about 10 minutes it was apparent that no one listened at half time and Securicor were on the attack once again. They built down the right and a lucky ricochet off Brian and the ball fell to a Securicor player and it was 2 - 3.
Zenadine was off again and was determined to score. The Dads were determined to stop him and some last ditch defending by Tony, Jim and John combined with some tackling back from the two Daves gave him some problems. The Dads were struggling to keep up with the young lads but John F was always available. The Dads even gave away some fouls with Dave H scything down the Securicor midfield maestro (well he breathed on him, but Dave told us that he always fouls that player).
The resulting free kick and Rob was shouting for a 4-man wall, he gave up shouting at three and the keeper set himself. The Securicor man lined up behind the ball with a demon look in his eyes and Rob spat into his gloves up he stepped and bang, the ball trickled three yards. Every one congratulated Rob who seemed to psyche out the Securicor player when he requested a wall.
At 2 - 3 the Dad's pushed some more but Andy was being marked out of the game. It was great to see Jason getting stuck in with a knee wrenching sliding tackle to win the ball. The Dads had some chances but the ball just didn't go in. Securicor were putting some great balls through and Rob denied Zenadine with his forearm and the use of John W on the line.
Unfortunately the Dads were under the cosh each time Rob ran out to sweep up all that could be heard was Jim shouting 'keeper get back you mad b*****d' no chance. Jim was also screaming at Tony to help in defense but Tony was so far up field he couldn't possibly hear (Tony thinks that he is Martin Keown, but a lot uglier).
Securicor scored again through a screamer from Zenadine and the Dad's buckled. The final Securicor goal came from way out, Rob seemed to have had it covered but there was so much swerve and spin on the ball it slipped through Robs legs (you know what these new balls are like).
The final whistle blew and the Dads retired - to the bar.
Full Time
Dads 2 - 5 Securicor
In the bar all the talk was about the next tour. Rob F was trying to convince everyone to go to Belgium when Andy piped up 'we wont be flying will we?'. Andy explained that he didn't like flying just like Bergkamp!
The Dads knew that this was what Andy wanted to be referred to when someone started doing an impression of BA Barraccas off of the A Team 'you ain't gonna get me on no plane fool' and Andy sighed. 'Cant you just call me Bergkamp?'
MOM
Andy BA Simpson - Great goal fool.
